With the relative success of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Mothra share her dream of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the star of Captain Marvel 2.
Monsters. Movies. Marvel. Motivations.
With the relative success of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, fan favorite Titans Rodan and Mothra think they’ve found where the real money is — Marvel Studios! Join us for the second part of our sit-down with these two legendary Titans of the silver screen, as we discuss their intentions to take their place among the likes of Captain America, Thor, and Rocket Racoon.
Mothra, can you tell us more about your conversation with Marvel Studios?
“Certainly. The film I auditioned for is the sequel to this year’s smash hit, Captain Marvel.“
Well, that’s incredible! What part did you audition for?
“Well, there wasn’t really a part for a being as awe-inspiring as me in the script—”“Wait, WAS there a script? The last movie just came out, after all, and you’re talking about a sequel that’s probably just been announced at best.”“Actually, the script is in the writing process. But I approached the human running the whole thing, I believe his name was something like Colonel Flavor, or…
You mean Kevin Feige, the CEO of Marvel Studios?
“Correct, that was his name! Anyway, I informed this Feige human of what my role should be in the Captain Marvel sequel.”“Oh really? What was that?”Well, in the comics that inspire the films, there is a point where Captain Marvel has her powers stolen by another being named Rogue. So there is a quest for her to regain who she really is and return to her former glory!”“That’s good fun and all, but where do you play into this?”“Well, on part of her journey, she encounters me. And I have to be the one that flies her from place to place as she recovers her own flight and other abilities!”“So let me get this straight: the main hero loses her powers to someone else, she’s struggling, and then out of the blue, you come in and fly her to wherever she needs to go as she tries to get her powers back?”“You are absolutely right on that, Dan-O!”“But wait, wasn’t one of the main complaints with the first movie that Captain Marvel was just this blank emotionless slate whose only purpose was to be a vessel for forced feminist empowerment messages?”“… Well… not that I…”“And with that, you think the best way for her to get back on her feet after losing her powers is to fly around on a giant butterfly?”“MOTH! I am a giant MOTH Rodan! I thought you of all beings would know that. It’s in my name for goodness’ sakes!”“Fine, you’re a giant moth. But would that look kinda weird for a character with those sort of connotations to her?”“Well, people would probably be distracted by my God Rays to notice! For all they would know, she would be flying on a giant beam of light!”“Something that only works for a little while, until certain times when they’ll see that, once again, it’s a giant butterfl— moth.”“Trust me, that would probably be the least of their concerns. In any case, the best part is… Drumroll please, interviewing human.”
Fine. Badadadadadadada…
“I don’t die in this! Yep, I make it to the ending credits this time!”
That sounds like a decent plan and all Mothra. Now what did Mr. Feige say about that?
“Well, he said he was interested in the idea, and that he’d keep in touch.”“That’s film talk for goodbye, next.”“Well, I’m too much of a good thing for him to ignore. Let’s just see what happens.”
Thank you Mothra. Next time, the spotlight shines on Rodan, as we learn where the master of supersonic mayhem fits in the MCU.
